This Week I read Teaching Multilingual Children by Virginia Collier, where she talks about how important it is to incorporate different langues and cultures in classrooms, especially ESL and multilingual classrooms. I found several other articles and sites that offer resources and other ideas on this idea of Multilingual classrooms.

Multilingual education embraces students' mother language to teach students because learning is more meaningful and powerful, and learning outcomes are stronger.

This Site I found explains multilingualism and what a Multilingual classroom looks like in different countries. It gives a definition of what multilingual is and what is like to have a multilingual classroom.

I found this video to be informative and interesting. It is about Multilingual schools and what is like for those children and families. It shows a school where they are involving the parents, families, and cultures of these students into the classroom. These teachers seem to be making a significant impact in these children's lives by supporting their cultures. These type of schools seem great, but I have actually never seen a school like this.I have only seen ESL classrooms in schools.I feel like if there were more of these types of schools, the ESL and multilingual students wouldn't feel so separate and isolated. I feel like this allows them to learn in a way only they can, and in their language and culture, where it means more to them.

I came across this great school district that is multilingual and this video talks about this school district in Buffalo, NY. Schools like this are pretty inspiring and seem to be making a difference in multilingual children's education.

Question to think about: Do you think it is better to have students learn in their native language/ tongue or in their second language, even if it is the language of the schools they are currently at? Do you think Multilingual schools are better and more effective rather than ESL and multilingual classrooms?
